Rafael Nadal & Roger Federer - A Match To Remember

Madrid, December 22nd, 2010 - After yesterday’s match in Zurich, Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer have landed in Madrid where they plan to continue their charity work. Both players are very familiar with the ‘Caja Mágica’; the same stage where they have played together twice in the past but where today they will face each other with a different objective in mind: To raise funds in favour of the Rafa Nadal Foundation and therefore help children with disabilities as well as those who come from disadvantaged communities. “To me, today is a very special day. I am lucky enough to be able to do what I love to do which is to play tennis, but at the same time, through my Foundation, I get the opportunity to help hundreds of kids who are not as lucky.”

“I want to thank Roger, the people who have come out to see us, and our sponsors for allowing us to make this project a reality,” said Rafa from Madrid.

‘Joining Forces for the benefit of Children’ is the first and biggest event organized by the Rafa Nadal Foundation which has reached out to the public for support to continue to help disadvantaged kids and youngsters.

“We are amazed by the support we have received from the beginning. Ticket sales were a complete success and it’s also incredible to feel the vibe the match has created. It will be a very intense day as want everyone to enjoy this day,” said Ana Maria Parera, president of the Rafa Nadal Foundation.

All 8.000 available seats for the event sold out in a matter of 6 hours, but for those who missed out, there is still a chance to make a contribution by purchasing ‘Row Zero’ tickets; a charitable token through which you can make a donation.

The players will be ready to jump on the court at around 6:45pm (local Spanish time), right after Spanish singer David Bisbal starts off the night with a special performance at the ‘Caja Mágica’.

“I want to thank David Bisbal for his help and for joining us in such a special day. I’m sure the crowd will really enjoy his music,” said the world No.1 tennis player.

Amongst the other special guests who didn’t want to miss the show are Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy. The always-friendly characters who came all the way from Disneyland Paris to support Rafa and Roger Federer, are also available throughout the day for a meet and great session with kids.
After the match, both players will attend the ‘Galería de Cristales del Ayuntamiento de Madrid’ for a gala dinner which will close out a two-day charity marathon that started in Zurich and ends in Madrid. This social event will be attended by elite sport stars, fashion icons and other famous Spanish personalities who will be treated to a private concert by Julio Iglesias.

“I give my most sincere thanks to Julio for making such a long trip to be with us. I’ve always been a fan of his and for me and my Foundation, it is an honour to have one of the biggest international artists participating at this charity event,” continued Rafa.

Both the crowd and the sponsors have shown overwhelming support towards the making of this event which wouldn’t have been possible without the unconditional help of Ayuntamiento de Madrid, Banesto, MAPFRE, United Postcode Lotteries. as well as Façonnable, San Miguel, Kia, Richard Mille, NetJets, Nespresso, Babolat, Play Station and Federación de Tenis de Madrid.

Rafa and Roger will begin their afternoon with a clinic for kids organized by Babolat at 4:00pm (local time) on the Magic Box’s Center Court.

During this session, the two champions will share their knowledge with children who are already showing incredible tennis skills and who are eager to play and receive advice from their idols. Who knows, maybe Roger’s and Rafa’s successors will be in that group!

For the first time ever, we want to give you the chance to take home with you a very special memory you will remember for ever...a piece of the court where the ‘Joining Forces for the Benefit of Children’ charity match will be played on. Once the match finishes, the court will be cut into 35.000 pieces (measuring 13x17cm) that will be later framed and personally signed by Rafa Nadal. The objective of this souvenir is to continue to raise funds for the benefit of children. Don’t miss your chance to help other kids and take home with you a piece of tennis history!
