Betting scandal update

The ATP World Tour tennis has told IMG chairman and CEO Ted Forstmann that betting on Roger Federer against Rafael Nadal in the 2007 French Open final was “inappropriate”.

The tour’s Tennis Integrity Unit conducted a “rigorous and confidential process” into a $40,000 bet placed by the head of the leading sports and entertainment agency. Both players are represented by IMG.

“The ATP has sent the message very clearly to Mr. Forstmann that we consider his behavior inappropriate and that he will be in violation of the rules if he engages in such activity in the future,” read a statement by ATP.

Forstmann has since said the bet was “bad judgement”: “I would have been rooting for him just as hard had I had no money on him at all.” He told news agency Bloomberg that was “probably” the last wager he had made in sports.
