New Haven is now WTA only

I quite enjoyed watching this tournament this year. I am surprised that the cost only dropped by $800k

The combined men's and women's event at New Haven will be a WTA-only tournament starting next year, tournament officials announced on Thursday.

Long-time title sponsor Pilot Pen ended its commitment earlier this year, creating the possibility that the tournament would be sold or moved elsewhere. A replacement has not been found but a 'bridge sponsorship' from host Yale University as well as Aetna, American Express and Yale-New Haven Hospital will allow the tournament to continue. Each sponsor has made a three-year commitment.

The event will now be called the New Haven Open at Yale.

The New Haven Register reported that dropping the men's event would bring costs down from $1.8 million to $1.2 million.
